Solid Waste & Recycling Curbside Program
Recycling Collection
The City of El Cerrito owns and operates the curbside collection of recyclables from all homes, businesses, and multi-family dwellings within the City.  

Holiday Schedule:  Curbside collection of recycling, greenwaste and garbage will not occur on Friday, 12-25-15 or 1-1-16. Curbside collection that is normally scheduled for these Fridays will occur one day late, on Saturday.  Christmas Trees will be picked up free of charge on the regular greenwaste day during the first 2 weeks of January 2016.  Questions? Please note: not all items accepted at the Drop-Off Center are included in the curbside program. For example, for following items are not accepted as part of the curbside program and must be brought to the Drop-off Center: batteries, CFL bulbs, electronics, large pieces of scrap metals, medicines/needles, plate glass, and Styrofoam.  Drop-off Recycling Center information.

Solid Waste and Green Waste Collection
East Bay Sanitary Company
is the City's franchised hauler of garbage and green waste.  For more details about the service provided by East Bay Sanitary, please see their website at or call 510-237-4321.

Among the solid waste and recycling collection services provided to El Cerrito Residents are:
  • Weekly curbside collection services
    • Weekly collection of recycling (grey container)
    • Weekly collection of green waste, including food scraps (green container)
    • Weekly collection of garbage (blue container)
    • Free “backyard collection” services for seniors and the disabled
  • Drop-off and other collection services:
    • Convenient and free drop-off recycling of a wide range of materials at the El Cerrito Recycling Center
    • Once annual free collection of extra materials recyclables, green waste, or garbage from your home
    • Free drop-off of Household Hazardous Waste at WCC HHW Facility in Richmond       
    • Free curbside of collection of HHW for seniors and the disabled
  • Special Recycling Events
    • Periodic electronics recycling collection events 
    • Biannual citywide garage sales

All of these services are provided for via rates charged to all homes and businesses for the collection of solid waste.  For details on the rates, see our rates page.
