El Cerrito, Calif. – August 30, 2018 – The City is aware of the incident that occurred at a local middle school. Although the City of El Cerrito has no oversight or administrative authority at any school, the City has been in contact with the school about the recent event.
Per the statement issued by the school, “The school immediately launched an investigation once it became aware of claims made by students about inappropriate language used by a teacher. The teacher in question has been put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.”
The City of El Cerrito has long been a champion of inclusivity and diversity, as part of its efforts to recognize and promote racial, ethnic, religious and cultural diversity in the City. Those efforts resulted in the “Stop Hate Together” campaign which was launched in 2016. El Cerrito does not tolerate prejudice, bigotry, racism, hatred, or violence of any kind.
