El Cerrito Swim Center Closed for Renovations

closed sign

Beginning on Monday, January 8, 2018 the El Cerrito Swim Center will be closed for major renovations to address several health and safety concerns as well as ADA compliance and locker room improvements that were developed with public input.  The anticipated re-opening date is in early to mid-March 2018.  This is the first major renovation project and closure that has occurred at the El Cerrito Swim Center since it first re-opened in January of 2004.

The major items that will be addressed during this renovation include:

  1. Locker Rooms (ADA compliance, safety concerns and public input)
    • Replace existing entrance doors
    • Regrade the floor with new epoxy flooring to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements
    • Replace trench drains
    • Replace some locker units with ADA compliant lockers and wider lockers
    • Replace and relocate benches with wider, ADA compliant benches and clearances
    • Replace and relocate some lavatory fixtures with ADA compliant fixtures and clearances
    • Renovate changing stalls for ADA compliance
    • Replace shower towers
    • Repair water damage in interior shower areas including new tile walls
    • Various locker room user enhancements
  2. Pool Chemical Storage Rooms (work mandated by County due to corrosion caused by age and sub-standard ventilation)
  • Replace roll up doors, door frames and hardware
  • Replace chemical tanks and ventilation components
  • Replace structural and electrical elements where needed

Funding for these projects comes from the Measure A Swim Center Capital Improvement Fund passed by voters in 2000.  The City of El Cerrito apologies for the inconvenience that this may cause but we look forward to reopening the Swim Center that is able to serve the public for at least another fifteen years.
