The City of El Cerrito Arts and Culture Commission encourages everyone to celebrate and promote the arts and culture! Participate, patronize and support the arts and humanities in El Cerrito.
CENTENNIAL Arts Month Celebration
Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 2pm to 5pm

To celebrate Arts Month and the City's centennial, the Arts & Culture Commission is planning a special event to take you on a journey through El Cerrito’s history! The event will include performances by:
- Kanyon Sayers-Roods - traditional and contemporary Ohlone songs and stories
- Los Arribeños de San Francisco - songs and dances from California’s Spanish and Mexican eras
- SF Sakura Ren - traditional Japanese dance and music
- The Saddle Cats - World War II era country swing music
- Tia Carroll and Her Awesome Blues Band – 1940s/1950s era rhythm blues music

Down Home Music presents the release of Shorty Joe: An Autobiography, by Joe Quartuccio with Steve Hathaway. Shorty Joe Quartuccio led a remarkable life; besides years as a country music disc jockey, singer, songwriter, band leader, he worked with many test pilots and astronauts. Also enjoy a live performance by The Saddle Cats, a four-piece ensemble that embraces just about any traditional musical style under the sun.

contra costa civic theatre: cabaret

Shows Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm
Set in 1931 Germany and based on Christopher Isherwood’s Berlin Stories, Cabaret explores a moment of divine decadence through the interwoven stories of a third-rate chanteuse, an American writer, the inhabitants of a once-respectable boarding house, and the denizens of a seedy Berlin nightclub.

Cartooning Class for Kids

The Charles M. Schulz Museum will host a cartooning class for kids ages 5-11 (grades K-8), including an intro to cartooning, animation, and Charles Schulz through a variety of drawing and art activities. Free; register to attend.

One City, One Book
Tuesday, October 10 and Tuesday, October 24 at 6:30PM

One City, One Book is an enriching nationwide program that encourages reading and discussion within a community. The selected book is a collection of short stories, Deceit and Other Possibilities, by local author Vanessa Hua. (Due to some mature themes, this book is recommended for adults.) Pick up a copy now and read it at your own pace. Join fellow readers at a group discussion on October 10, led by Chris Sterba, Chair of the El Cerrito Arts and Culture Commission and Senior Lecturer of American Studies at San Francisco State University, which will focus on the stories "Accepted," "The Responsibility of Deceit," and "For What They Shared." Also, meet the author on October 24 for a reading, book signing, and discussion. City Hall Gallery Space Art Show

VIew paintings by the El Cerrito Canyon Trail Art Studio painting class. Gallery Space is on second floor of City Hall. The artists will host a reception on Thursday, November 2 from 6:30-8:00pm, to which the public is invited.

National theatre live 2017 fall 3-play season
Presented by Rialto Cinemas CerritoThe 3-play season begins in October with Yerma, Simon Stone's inspired re-working of Federico Garcia Lorca. The season also includes Follies, with music and lyrics by Stephan Sondheim, in November and December; and the comedy Young Marx in December and January.
