During the pilot, Gig members will park and access vehicles within Gig’s service area, called HomeZone. This allows Members to pick up and drop off Gig vehicles at different locations, making it easy to find a car, get in, and go. With Gig there are no application or sign-up fees, and gas, insurance and parking are built into the pricing. Gig members must follow all driving and parking rules including the City’s 72-hour on-street parking limit.
Car share services such as Gig can provide an alternative to car ownership. Studies have shown that each car share vehicle on the road can eliminate up to eleven personally owned vehicles and provide a first- and last-mile mobility solution. By providing a flexible mobility option that enables reduced car ownership and less driving, car share services support the city’s sustainable transportation objectives.
